A Word of Gratitude

As I look back on the months since Landon Padgett Memorial Fund launched in the Fall of 2018, I am amazed at how much we've accomplished.

We started this organization to express our love for Landon and to show our gratitude for the compassionate, service-oriented life he led and his dedication to healing young people.  What started as a commitment to continue Landon's legacy, though, quickly became a movement thanks to the generosity of our donor community.

Our Landon Padgett Memorial Fund family is made up of groups and individuals from across the country.  There's Landon's family and friends who were some of the first to give. Our friends at Crossfit Chamblee who, within weeks of our launching LPMF, held a fundraiser that raised over $8,000.  There are donors who never knew Landon but were so moved by his life and his story that they gave to an unproven organization - virtually unheard of in the charity world.  There's the National Flag Football League of Atlanta who just raised nearly $1,000 at their end of the season party to support our programs. There's our growing community on Facebook who've shared their stories and their gratitude and have become citizen fundraisers by creating Facebook birthday donation pages.  And, there are those who have selected LPMF as beneficiary of their AmazonSmile donations. It's awe-inspiring to watch our donor community become advocates for our work and take such an active role in ensuring we help as many young people as we can.

Landon Padgett Memorial Fund would not be what it is today without our amazing Board of Trustees who shared my vision.  They've given their time, money and energy to bring this organization to life.  Thanks to their efforts and the financial support of our donors, we awarded $10,000 in scholarships through our Landon Padgett Memorial Scholarship program.  The five graduating seniors from Landon's high school alma mater embody Landon's values and his commitment to serving those in need.  Their enthusiasm for the boundless opportunities ahead inspire me and remind me so much of Landon.  I look forward to following them on their journey and sharing with you their stories in the years to come.

I know you have choices when deciding which organizations to support financially.  That's why I'm so grateful you've selected Landon Padgett Memorial Fund.  That's also why our Board of Trustees covers all of our operational costs - so that 100% of your gifts go to our programs.  That's especially important for our newest program, the Landon Padgett Patient Family Assistance Program at the Sibley Heart Center of Children's Healthcare of Atlanta.  These families need all the help they can get.  So, we're maximizing the impact of every dollar you give.

It was a formidable challenge.  Build an organization from the ground up with no experience.  All I had was a dream to share my husband's story with the world.  So, as we end our first fiscal year and look to the next, I want to say thank-you for keeping Landon's memory alive in the hearts and minds of those who love him and those who are just getting to know him.  Your continued support is helping dreams take flight!

Thank you,

New Program Launch

Patient Family

Assistance Program

During his career as a Cardiac Intensive Care Unit (CICU) Nurse at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta, Landon encountered some of the sickest patients in the country. Caring for a sick child is an emotionally devastating feat for any parent. Unfortunately, the heartbreak of a congenital heart defect diagnosis (or any other debilitating disease) comes with an enormous financial burden and places undue stress on families.

Of the 400,000 patients Children's saw in 2018, approximately 60% of their families were unable to cover the cost of their care. That leaves families facing difficult choices between paying for critical medical care and other necessities. Donor support allows Children’s to provide assistance to families facing financial hardship during their child’s treatment.  This financial support helps pay for things like a family’s utilities, a patient’s prescriptions, transportation vouchers to get to and from appointments, food, lodging and in some cases, funeral costs.

So, in partnership with Children's Healthcare of Atlanta, we are excited to

announce the Landon Padgett Patient Family Assistance Program

This program is designed to help relieve some of the financial pressures

families face when their children are in the hospital. It helps meet urgent,

short-term needs for low income families who would otherwise be forced

to make choices that could impact their child’s ability to heal.

Donations to this new program will be go to families with children at the

Sibley Heart Center where Landon spent most of his nursing career and will allow parents to spend the most time possible caring for their children.

Landon loved Children's and the patients and families he met and cared for there.  He was born to improve the lives of children.  Whether rocking an infant or comforting the parents of a child who was just wheeled off to open-heart surgery, his warmth and compassion were felt by all. Your gift to The Landon Padgett Patient Family Assistance Program ensures Landon's legacy lives on.
